Been a while since you stepped foot in Azeroth? Blizzard hopes you’ll come back for a visit this holiday.
During a special event in Los Angeles Thursday, the company unveiled a November 13 launch date for Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion to their chart-topping World of Warcraft. The new game introduces several features, including a higher level cap, new zones, and the ability to build and customize garrisons.
Blizzard’s MMO has been on the decline in recent years, most recently suffering an 800,000 player exodus to bring the total current subscriber count under 7 million. Don’t shed too many tears for Blizzard, however: according to research firm SuperData, Warcraft topped $1 billion in revenue in 2013, enjoying a whopping 36% of the market share nearly 10 years after launch. It might not have quite the same number of players as it once did, but it’s still a goldmine.
Blizzard also took the wraps off Lords of War, an animated series intended to introduce players to the main characters in Draenor. The first episode is currently live.
