USA's J.R. Celski finishes fourth in 1500m short track speed skating event

Speedskater J.R. Celski is one of Team USA's rising stars, but on Monday he couldn't bring home a medal in the 1500m short track speedskating event.

Canada's Charles Hamelin won gold with a time of 2:14.985, adding to the two golds he won in Vancouver in 2010. Tianyu Han took silver, while Victor Ahn of Russia delighted the hometown crowd with a bronze win.

Celski spent much of the early portion of the race running in sixth among the seven racers, lurking around the back of the pack. He made his move around lap 6 of 13, briefly taking the lead before surrendering it to Hamelin. He fell back to fifth, and was unable to close the gap between the lead pack.

Celski, widely heralded as the heir apparent to Apolo Ohno, still has three possible medal events left ahead in the Sochi Games: the 500m, 1000m, and 5000m relay events. There's still time for him to make his mark this year.
