Fourth-Place Medal

Sage Kotsenburg got tweeted at by Kobe Bryant and wishes his gold medal was made out of bacon

Sage Kotsenburg became a household name over the weekend when he pulled off a massive upset and won the first gold medal of the Sochi Games in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding event.

The 20-year-old Kotsenburg, a native of Park City, Utah, has taken a lighthearted approach to his newfound fame. He was surprised he even made it to the finals of the slopestyle in the first place, then for his gold-winning run, he flawlessly executed a trick he had never even attempted before. Seriously.

Kotsenburg is a very likeable guy. He’s very unassuming and there is no pretense to him. He doesn’t change the way he talks when the camera turns on. He uses words like “stoked” and “gnarly,” and he even made up his own word: “spoice.”

For evidence, just check out his Twitter account. He has garnered tens of thousands of followers since winning the gold and has tweeted all sorts of his hilarious thoughts and adventures while taking in the sights and sounds of Sochi.

In the past two days, Kotsenburg has met Michelle Kwan and Grace Gold, got tweeted at by Kobe Bryant, wished that his gold medal was made out of bacon, and hung out with a Russian police officer.

Kotsenburg is living the dream, and he even got to see his "medal made of bacon" wish come to fruition.
