May-Treanor and Walsh win their second gold medal

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have repeated as gold medalists, the first beach volleyball team to do so. This is their 108th consecutive win. They won 21-18, 21-18 over Tian Jia and Wang Jie on a rain soaked day in Beijing. The win was not without difficulty, as China gave them their toughest test of the Olympics. The Chinese team employed bits of strategy that would make Bill Belichek smile. First, at set point in the first set, China called a timeout just before May was about to serve. Then, China's Wang Jie called for an injury timeout in the second set, giving her an extra few minutes when May and Walsh were on a roll. Still, it did not matter, as the Americans buckled down and won the gold.
