Kohei Uchimura wins all-around gold, proves he’s pretty much the best gymnast ever

(Getty)Japan's Kohei Uchimura cruised to a gold medal at the all-around competition on Wednesday. Though he showed cracks during the qualification round and team final, Uchimura showed again why he is the best gymnast of all time.

In Wednesday's competition, the lowest score he posted was a 15.066 on the pommel horse. He fell during his dismount from the horse during the team final. His vault score of 16.266 ties for the best vault score awarded with McKayla Maroney's Amanar during the women's team final. His total of 92.690 outpaced Germany's Marcel Nguyen, the silver-medal winner, by 1.659 points.

But it's not just this one competition that proves he's the greatest. It's the fact that the last time he took second in an all-around competition was the 2008 Olympics. Since then, he won three golds at the world championships, beating every challenger with a mix of difficult, innovative moves, perfect technique and overwhelming strength.

He now has Olympic all-around gold to add to his already-full medal collection. He can still add more, as he qualified for event finals in floor exercise. Tune in Sunday to watch him compete and get one more glimpse at the greatest.
