In the complex world of figure skating scoring there’s one thing we know for certain – a 10 is the absolute best an individual figure skater can receive (at least with the new rules in these Olympics).

And only one of the women who competed in the Wednesday’s short program can claim that feat.

Italy’s Carolina Kostner currently sits in third place behind South Korea’s Kim Yu-Na and Adelina Sotnikova of Russia but she earned 10s by one judge in Performance/Execution and another in Interpretation. Those are two of the five components on which overal scores are tabulated.

Kostner is .80 points behind Yu-Na and .52 behind Sotnikova with the free skate remaining Thursday.

Earlier in the day, some worried about Kostner’s health after The Onion, a satirical publication, wrote a story that said Kostner had fallen through the ice during her short program and had to be rescued.

Sometimes satire doesn’t translate well. Rest assured, Kostner is fine and in the hunt for a medal.
