Cesar Cielo likes to smack his chest really hard before races (PHOTO)

Fourth-Place Medal

How does the fastest man in swimming get ready for races? By smacking his chest so hard and so often that he's left with bright red marks on his pecs.

Brazil's Cesar Cielo holds the world record in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, which gives him the distinction as the world's fastest man. Yet he's a mostly anonymous figure on the world sports landscape, swimming in the shadows of Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin, and having a fraction the profile of his track and field counterpart, Usain Bolt.

Maybe that's why he has so much aggression to get out before the race. He says he hits himself repeatedly because it helps "awaken the body." Something to remember the next time you run out of coffee in the morning.
