Amanda Hunter likely had a busier day than you did. The junior at California is a member of the school's cheerleading squad as well as the track team's triple jumper and majors in both American studies and rhetoric. Her days are jam-packed with practices and studies and more practices.

The San Francisco Chronicle talked to Hunter, who will be on the sidelines when the Golden Bears take on the Stanford Cardinal this weekend. This spring, she'll represent Cal in Pac-12 competition in the triple jump.

She believes that cheerleading and triple jump go hand in hand.

"It's the idea of mastering such a hard skill. Rhythm, speed and power all come into play ... It definitely helps my stamina level," she said. "I'm not thinking about how tired I am."

Hunter's personal best is 41 feet, 3/4 inches, putting her around eight feet shy of the world record, and she's aiming to improve by a few feet this season. However, Inessa Kravets, the Ukrainian world record holder, didn't split her time between cheering, studying and triple jumping.

The next time you hear a complaint about lazy college students, remember Amanda Hunter.
