Jamaica's bobsled team has taken most of the "tropical nation going to the Winter Olympics?" heat, but the British Virgin Islands have a good story of their own. Peter Adam Crook will be heading to Sochi in the halfpipe skiing event, the first athlete from the British Virgin Islands in 30 years to travel to the Winter Olympics.

"To me representing the BVI in the Olympics is a huge honor," Crook told The Caribbean Journal. "I’m doing something that not a lot of people in the BVI have seen before, so I hope to open everyone's eyes to the sport that I love and make everyone proud."

Crook was born in the British Virgin Islands in 1993 but moved to Wisconsin in 2001. He trains in Park City, Utah. He will be the first British Virgin Islands representative to the Winter Olympics since 1984.

Overall, the BVI has sent athletes to nine different Olympic Games. The largest delegation was in 1984 for Los Angeles.
