Zombie infection to spread in ECHL team's special jerseys (Photo)

It all began on Feb. 15 when Toledo Walleye head coach Derek Lalonde announced that forward Dominic Zombo was suffering from some sort of illness and walking a little different than usual.

The next day trainer Brad Fredrick examined Zombo and noticed some discoloring of his eyes. Not long after, the symptoms got worse.

The diagnosis? Zombo was going full zombie, which is part of a brilliant marketing campaign by the ECHL side ahead of their March 12 “Zombie Night” during their game with the Norfolk Admirals.

Actors who portray zombies on the popular TV show “Walking Dead” will be in attendance “lurking" around the arena for meet-and-greet opportunities. But the coolest zombie-related part of the night will take place on the ice.

The Walleye will don a different jersey for each period, with the signs of a zombie infection becoming increasingly noticeable for their second and third period sweaters.

What happens if the game needs overtime? We’re too scared to find out.

The jerseys will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds benefiting Old Newsboys.

This is another great specialty jersey idea by the Walleye, who previously gave us sweaters with themes honoring Don Cherry, 8-bit video games, Batman and the Joker, and the Boy Scouts.
