The Canadian Press reports that a 34-year-old Kingsville, Ont. woman was arrested and charged with "impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving over the legal alcohol limit" after erratic operation of an ice resurfacing machine. More detail from the Windsor Star:
At around 9:40 p.m. Thursday, an off-duty Kingsville OPP sergeant who happened to be at the arena was approached by a number of citizens telling him "I think the Zamboni driver is drunk."
The sergeant observed the 34-year-old driver operating the machine in an erratic manner, with speed fluctuating and missing large portions of the ice surface.
On more than one occasion the Zamboni struck the boards and at one point the machine was stopped and the woman was slumped over the steering wheel.
The paper reports she had "had a mickey of vodka" in the Zamboni. Well, we hope she had the good sense to chill that bad boy up in the snow shavings.
Is it an insult to all Zamboni drivers at local skating rinks to say that we sort of assume most of them are half in the bag, at least by the end of the night? Because this really isn't the first incidence of ZUI.
