The rookie's playoff debut was a memorable one. He assisted on Danny Briere's controversial breakaway goal — he was offside — to cut the Pittsburgh Penguins' lead to 3-1; assisted on Briere's second of the night to close the gap further; and then tipped home a pass from Scott Hartnell to tie the game at 12:23 of the third. Jakub Voracek's game-winner in OT gave the Flyers a 4-3 victory in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference showdown.
Richards's first playoff game with LA saw him score a power-play goal to tie the Vancouver Canucks in the first and then assist on third-period goals by Dustin Penner (off a nice skate-pass from Jeff Carter) and Dustin Brown (empty netter) to earn a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He was also an agitating force and a physical presence: four hits, including a big one on Alex Burrows near the end.
