Watch Scott Darling’s ‘desperate’ save of year candidate (Video)

In the second period of their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night, Teuvo Teravainen of the Chicago Blackhawks attempted the skate the puck out of his own zone.

Instead, he lost it to Nick Spaling.

Alone. In the slot, Facing a wide-open net.

Goalie Scott Darling saw this unfolding, and leaned back to his left. He lunged with his glove, stretching his body across the crease. And he snagged the puck for one of the best saves of the NHL season.

Here's another look at the save:

Said Darling, on his save, via Chris Hine: "Desperate times call for desperate measures."

Well, not that desperate. The Blackhawks were up 3-0 at the time; they went on to win 7-2, with Patrick Kane getting a goal and three assists.
