When the Cardiff Devils of the U.K.'s Elite Ice Hockey League signed Paul Bissonnette, they knew they were getting an accomplished pugilist and new media hockey folk hero. Little did they know there were also getting an offensive juggernaut.
The Devils defeated the Braehead Clan on Saturday night, 7-5; watch BizNasty score the first goal of the game just 72 seconds into the contest. (The goal is 12 seconds into this highlight clip; Bissonnette is, incidentally, No. 12.)
Wow, those hands. It's like if Peter Forsberg and Pavel Datsyuk had a baby, and that baby grew up to be a fourth-liner who makes references to panty soup on Twitter.
The Devils are excited that the Phoenix Coyotes fan favorite has brought his particular brand of whimsy to the EIHL. From Wales Online:
"Paul's arrival is a huge boost to our organisation and gives us flexibility and options with the recent suspensions and Tyson Marsh out due to injury," says head coach Gerad Adams.
"I'm excited to be here and can't wait to play competitive games again," says Bissonnette, who has previously played alongside Mac Faulkner, Devin Didiomete and Chris Blight. "I've heard a lot about the great lifestyle and people."
We can't wait to see BizNasty's coverage of this "lifestyle."
Meanwhile, congratulations to Paul Bissonnette for matching his goal total for all of 2012-13 in just 72 seconds. And, with an assist on Bari McKenzie's goal, has now matched his point total for the last two NHL seasons.
Alas, fantasy owners will lament that he didn't pull down any PIMs in the effort. (If there is, like, EIHL fantasy hockey.)
