Puck Daddy

As you know, Puck Daddy is counting down the 50 worst own-goals in hockey this week — Nos. 50-41 are here and Nos. 40-31 are here.

Alas, without the benefit of a flux capacitor, there was no way to include this long-range deflection gaffe by San Jose Sharks star Joe Thornton from Davos' 7-6 loss to the Lakers on Tuesday in the Swiss league. But it's a beauty:

This clip features one of our favorite side effects of the own-goal, which is goaltender befuddlement: Leonardo Genoni looks up, looks around, looks behind the goal and then realizes the puck was batted into the net by a 6-4 carpetbagger. Good times.

So please, feel free to consider this No. 51 on our countdown, which will continue later on Wednesday and through the week until we reach the Steve Smith Goal at No. 1. If it is actually No. 1. Hmmmm …
