I don't know about you, but it's always been my dream to one day have a backyard ice rink. (It dovetails beautifully with my wife's dream to one day have a backyard.) But today, I think I'll look into a new dream.
The reason: this incredible, backyard ice rink time-lapse video by Matt Vriesema, which is beautiful and mesmerizing, and demonstrates just how much work goes into laying down a fresh sheet of ice behind the house.
Too much work, if you ask me. According to Vriesema, who lives in Chicago, Illinois, the video is the result of five days of labour, 28,000 photos, and 15,000 gallons of water.
Granted, it was all worth it in the end, since it yielded this incredible video, as well as a place for Vriesema's family and friends to skate. But I'm just too lazy for this. My new dream: befriending somebody who does this and hoping he calls me when he's done.
