Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. In sports when something is successful for one team or player, others are quick to copy. Remember when NHL teams tried toughening up after the Anaheim Ducks won the Stanley Cup in 2007? Or how often have we seen "The Forsberg" move pulled in a game or during a shootout attempt during Peter the Great did it at the 1994 Olympics?
During the KHL All-Star Game in January, Sibir Novosibirsk's Jori Lehtera scored on a penalty shot with a very slick between-the-legs move. Sure, he got some help from the goaltender in a relaxed game, but the move was creative.
Enter Artem Voronin, a forward for MHC Spartak of the KHL's major junior league. During their 4-3 shootout win of Almaz on Friday, Voronin decided to use Lehtera's move to pull off a winning attempt:
At least the goalie in the KHL All-Star Game was playing along. Poor Kirill Grigoryev of Almaz might never hear the end of this one.
The win came during Spartak's final game of the regular season, where they finished second overall, 11 points ahead of Almaz.
Can we somehow get footage of Lehtera's and Voronin's moves to Pavel Datsyuk? Just when you think he's done every possible move imaginable, here's one more he could add to the arsenal.
