Top 10 NHL saves made by non-goalies (Video)

Goalies are typically called “the last line of defense” for their teams. Well, sometimes there’s another line behind that line: The forward or defenseman rushing back in a last-second effort to keep the puck out of the net.

They are the desperation saves made by non-goalies, and they were collected by TSN in a top 10 list:

A few reactions:

• That Ray Bourque stick save was sick. Pure, uncut sickness.

• Good to see the Rob Scuderi saves made the cut, because they were sorta important and career defining and stuff.

• The Bryan Marchment save is a cheat. That’s a poke check. But that Sandis Ozolinsh stick save on the goal line was incredible.

• This was one of those countdowns where we weren’t sure what No. 1 might end up being. Then we remembered: Michael Ryder, glove save. That pretty much solidifies him as the third-string keeper for any team he plays for, right?
