Team Foligno plays favorites and picks teammates

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hello alternate captain of Team Foligno, Drew Doughty. I have a question for you. What is your team’s weakest link?

“Pssh …” Said Doughty following the NHL’s fantasy draft for Sunday's All-Star Game and Saturday's skills competition.

“I don’t know. I don’t even remember a lot of the people we drafted,” he added, before saying that Kings teammate Anze Kopitar was the weakest link … goodbye.

You can call Team Foligno the ‘buddy team’ or the ‘super friends’ or something like that. Captain Nick Foligno (still can’t get used to saying that) made Columbus teammate Ryan Johansen his top pick.

Here is a list of both team’s rosters.

Alternate captain Patrick Kane took Blackhawks blueliner Duncan Keith. Doughty was then allowed to grab Kopitar. Blues blueliner Kevin Shattenkirk and goaltender Brian Elliott made the squad rounding out the group of duos.

On a sidenote, Doughty snarked on Shattenkirk's receding hairline in the draft. Dude, male pattern baldness is not a joke!

Anyway ...

“I really do like my team,” Folingo said. “I’m going to sit down and strategize tonight what we’re going to do for the skills and get ready for tomorrow and really enjoy it.”

And in regards to the team’s strengths? Defense? Sure!

“I thought we were loaded with D to be honest with you. Doughty, Keith, (Oliver) Ekman-Larsson, (Dustin) Byfuglien so, those four right there are pretty special so, we’ll take our chances,” said Kane, whose memory wasn’t nearly as foggy as Doughty's. What was in those white cups? Oh yeah "water" of course.

But the steal of the night definitely came with Team Foligno’s 17th pick, taking Alexander Ovechkin and denying the Caps star the last pick in the draft and a Honda Accord.

“There must be something back home in Russia that Honda Accords are hot right now,” Foligno said.

Ovi’s a hockey player with a contract that’s worth over $100 million. I’m pretty sure his life was not ruined by him not getting a Honda.
