
No. 1 Star: Jose Theodore(notes), Minnesota Wild
In his past 21 starts against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Theodore is now an astounding 17-1-3 after the Wild's 4-0 shutout. Martin Havlat(notes) and Kyle Brodziak(notes) each had a goal and an assist as Minnesota won for the sixth time in seven visits to Pittsburgh. Theodore stopped 26 Penguins shots for his 30th career shutout.
No. 2 Star: Pekka Rinne(notes), Nashville Predators
Nashville won their fifth straight game, including a three-game California sweep with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. Rinne made 42 saves and after the game, Predators head coach Barry Trotz credited his goaltender for stealing the game. Sergei Kostitsyn(notes) broke the 1-1 tie early in the third period with his 11th of the year.
No. 3 Star: Jaret Stoll, Los Angeles Kings
Helping to snap LA's five-game losing streak, Stoll tallied twice as the Kings built up a 4-1 lead in the second period against a Columbus team that fought back before eventually falling 6-4. Stoll's 11th of the year came shorthanded to put the Kings up 4-0. LA went 2-for-4 on the power play. Defenseman Jack Johnson(notes) recorded three assists on the day when he signed a seven-year, $30.5 million deal.
Honorable mention: Columbus rookie Matt Calvert(notes) scored his first NHL goal in the loss to the Kings thanks to this Jonathan Quick(notes) gaffe:
James van Riemsdyk(notes) and Danny Briere(notes) each scored and Brian Boucher(notes) made 34 saves to hold off the Devils for a 2-1 win. The victory ensured that head coach Peter Laviolette would join Alain Vigneault as co-coaches for one of the All Star Game teams against Joel Quenneville ... Making his first NHL start, Kevin Poulin(notes) made 34 saves and the Islanders rallied back to defeat Colorado 4-3 in overtime. John Tavares(notes) scored the winner with just over a minute to go in the extra frame. Jeremy Colliton(notes) scored two goals, his first since April, 2006. New York capitalized on three of their four power play opportunities ... Behind Ryan Miller's(notes) 33 saves and Drew Stafford's(notes) overtime goal, the Buffalo Sabres got past the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 ... Sean Avery(notes) snapped a 1-1 tie late in the second period as the New York Rangers edged St. Louis 2-1. Martin Biron(notes) made 24 saves for his first career win against the Blues (1-7-2) as New York improved to 11-4-2 in their last 17 games ... Dwayne Roloson's(notes) 31 saves and goals from Martin St. Louis(notes) and Adam Hall(notes) 3:36 apart early in the third period were enough for Tampa Bay to defeat Ottawa 2-1 ... Eric Fehr(notes), Mike Green(notes) and Alex Ovechkin(notes) each had two points as Washington improved to 6-0-2 in their past eight games with a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers. In a possible preview of the Western Conference final, Jiri Hudler(notes) scored the only goal in the shootout as Detroit beat Vancouver 2-1. Henrik Zetterberg(notes) extended his point streak to 10 games assisting on Johan Franzen's(notes) goal in the second period. Jimmy Howard(notes) stopped 34 shots, including rob jobs on the Sedin twins:
In their 3,000th NHL home game, Max Pacioretty(notes) capped off a late Montreal comeback with the overtime winner during a 3-2 Canadiens win over Boston. Down 2-0 late in the third period, Scott Gomez(notes) and Brian Gionta(notes) scored in a 1:34 span to force the extra period.
