After an up-and-down start to the season, Pavelec rolled off six straight wins, beginning with a 5-0 shutout of the Washington Capitals on Nov. 19th. Facing the Caps once again on Saturday night, Pavelec was again stellar making 45 saves in a 3-1 win for the Thrashers. An Alex Ovechkin(notes) goal late in the second period cut the Atlanta lead to 2-1, but Andrew Ladd's(notes) power play goal early in the third period was the insurance marker. The win was Pavelec's seventh in his last eight games. Rich Peverley(notes) and Andrew Ladd each had a goal and an assist in the win.
Between 40 saves in regulation and overtime and then three more in the shootout, the Panthers rode Clemmensen to their 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. Subbing in for Tomas Vokoun(notes), Clemmensen faced double digit shots in all three periods and then made a key save on a 2-on-1 in overtime for his second win of the year, snapping a three-game losing streak. Michael Frolik(notes) scored the clincher in the fifth round of the shootout for the Panthers.
Behind Jonathan Quick's(notes) 27 saves, the Kings beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in overtime behind Kopitar's winner at 4:04 of overtime. Alec Martinez(notes) scored his second goal of the season to tie the game at two in the second period and after a scoreless third, it was Kopitar one-timing a Dustin Brown(notes) feed passed Chris Osgood(notes) for LA's second win a row.
Honorable mention: Jeff Carter's(notes) goal and two assists helped the Flyers get past the Devils 5-3. Sergei Bobrovsky(notes) made 23 saves for his first win in three starts ... On their 101st birthday, Carey Price(notes) led the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 win over San Jose with 26 saves for his fourth win in his last five starts ... Sidney Crosby(notes) and Paul Martin(notes) each scored twice as the Pittsburgh Penguins routed the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-2 for their ninth straight win. The Penguins scored four times in the first period and Marc-Andre Fleury(notes) won for the 10th time in 11 starts. With his pair of goals, Crosby extended his points streak to 15 games and took over the lead in the NHL goal scoring race with his 22nd and 23rd ... In a goalless game, Thomas Vanek's(notes) goal in the shootout was the difference as Buffalo edged Ottawa 1-0. Ryan Miller(notes) made 32 saves in the win ... Avs rookie Kevin Shattenkirk(notes) extended his points streak to nine games with two assists ... Martin Erat(notes) assisted on three of Nashville's five goals in their 5-2 win over Carolina. Rookie goaltender Anders Lindback(notes) stopped 28 saves in his first start after taking over for an injured Pekka Rinne(notes) ... A back-and-forth game between Minnesota and Dallas ended in overtime with Stephane Robidas'(notes) third goal of the season on the power play for a 4-3 Stars victory. Kari Lehtonen(notes) made 28 saves for his fourth straight win. In the loss, Martin Havlat(notes) scored his seventh goal of the year to give him nine points in his past five games ... Kris Versteeg's(notes) late power play goal forced overtime and Phil Kessel's(notes) goal in the shootout stood as the winner in Toronto's 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins. Despite the loss, Tim Thomas(notes) made 38 saves and robbed Francois Beauchemin of an overtime winner ... Taylor Hall's(notes) goal 23 seconds into overtime gave Edmonton a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. Nikolai Khabibulin(notes) made 31 saves for the Oilers who are now winners of five of their last six.
