Ryan Miller still getting the goalie interference calls, costs Flyers goal (VIDEO)

Last season, Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller was infamously bowled over by Milan Lucic while playing the puck well outside of his crease. He was later crashed in his crease by Jordin Tootoo, in an incident that resulted in Tootoo’s suspension.

Miller admitted the high profile incidents may have made referees sensitive to goalie interference during the rest of his season. Looking at this no-goal for the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, perhaps that tradition has carried over to the 2013 campaign:

Miller made a save on Luke Schenn’s shot from the top of the zone, as Ruslan Fedotenko crashed the net. The puck deflected into the net, the Flyers celebrated but the goal was waived off due to the contact between Fedotenko and the Sabres goalie.

Good call? Bad call?

As NBC’s Mike Milbury noted between periods, goaltenders are far too protected when it comes to marginal calls like this (although the Flyers weren’t penalized). We tend to agree … especially when the keeper sells it a bit.
