Report: Jaromir Jagr makes deal with Devils for one year

All Jaromir Jagr needs now is to sign with the New York Islanders next summer and he'll have completed Arron Asham Atlantic Division 3.0 (RIP) B-I-N-G-O.

According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, the 41-year old Jagr has agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with the New Jersey Devils. No financial details have been released just yet.

Aside from re-signing his own restricted free agents, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said last week of any pending moves, "If we can make our team better, we will." Jagr will certainly help a 21st-ranked power play, seeing as how 11 of his 35 points last season came with the man advantage.

Jagr scored just once after being dealt from Dallas to Boston at the trade deadline, but did contribute 10 assists as the Bruins marched to the Stanley Cup Final. Health will always be a concern with him, seeing as how he has a history of groin issues, plus the fact that he's 41 years old, too, but the risk of a 1-year deal is worth it for the Devils as they look to help fill the offensive void left by Ilya Kovalchuk's "retirement". And if it doesn't work out, as Chris Botta points out, the Devils can dump him at the trade deadline, like the Stars did, for a draft pick.

Like many organizations, the Devils have their own in-house rules by which they abide. Lamoriello isn't a big fan of jersey numbers higher than 40, but much like he allowed Alex Mogilny to wear No. 89 and Doug Gilmour No. 93, Jagr's famous No. 68 will remain on his back.
