Habs swap Rene Bourque for Ducks' Bryan Allen in deal of 30-somethings

Rene Bourque has found a taker!

The Anaheim Ducks decided to get rid of depth blueliner Bryan Allen in order to add Bourque, the Montreal forward and streaky scorer, who hasn't really scored since the 2010-11 season.

In fact, Bourque doesn't have a goal this year at all and was sent down to Hamilton of the American Hockey League where he at least has two goals and two assists in four games.

Says the Orange County Register:

"Pushed down to a seventh defenseman role when everyone is healthy, Allen had an assist and four penalty minutes in six games with the Ducks."

"The trade has the appearance of teams moving high-salaried players whose long-term roles had diminished."

The paper is right! Allen is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3.5 million. Bourque's contract pays him $2.5 million, but carries a $3.33 million salary cap hit.

Basically one of those, 'I'll give you your dirty laundry for mine' type situations. But hey, if Bourque can get back to his 2010-11 form where he had 50 points and 27 goals for Calgary, maybe it'll be worth it for Anaheim?

There was another trade on Thursday, with the Edmonton Oilers shipping depth forward Will Acton to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for minor-league winger Kellan Lain.
