Puck Headlines: Musical tribute to Rick Nash trade; Jack Johnson in play?

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

    • The Royal Half covers Hall and Oates with singer Felander Stevenson, as Rick Nash tells us "These Teams Are On My List." Amazing. [The Royal Half]

    • Jack Johnson of the Los Angeles Kings is "in play" but only for a high-end scorer. [Jewels From The Crown]

Is this the night the Detroit Red Wings' streak ends? [Winging It]

    • Milan Lucic on his church back in Burnaby being vandalized: "It sucks that people would go to such an extreme to do something like that," the Vancouver native said. "Obviously it's some punk kids or teenagers or something like that, thinking that they're cool. But karma's a funny thing. And what goes around comes around." Some punk kids? Suddenly he's Clint Eastwood in "Gran Torino" … [QMI]

    • Sidney Crosby health update: Contact free practices, still feeling symptoms, "trying to get back." [Penguins]

    • Huzzah! The Time Warner/MSG Network standoff is over! Jeremy Lin saved the day! [NY Times]

    • Jamie Benn's lacerated leg will keep him out of at least the next two games for the suddenly back in this Dallas Stars. [ESPN Dallas]

    • Mirtle returns with the popular man-games lost list, finding that Pittsburgh Penguins wear the crown for "most injured" while the Boston Bruins beat up people but don't ever get beaten up. [Globe & Mail]

    • Coolness: The Top 10 USA hockey jerseys of all time. The Goodwill Games one that didn't make the cut looks like something from a 1980s children's television program that's set in space. [United States of Hockey]

    • The Colorado Avalanche might get mighty Matt Duchene back for Sunday's game against Winnipeg. [All Things Avs]

    • Tom Sestito ripped up his groin in a fight with Zack Kassian last night, and will miss 6-to-8 weeks for the Philadelphia Flyers. [Broad Street Hockey]

    • Well this is fun: Tomas Vokoun is scheduled to face the Florida Panthers in Florida, while Jose Theodore is expected to face the Washington Capitals for the first time since he left as a free agent in 2010. [Capitals Insider]

    • Funny, snarky piece by Eric Duhatschek on fake trades at the deadline. [Globe & Mail]

    • NOT HOCKEY: Few things in life are more rewarding than seeing Spencer Hall eviscerate someone, and David Brooks deserved it for his terrible Jeremy Lin and sports/religion column. [SB Nation]

    • Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that forward Rich Peverley will be out 4-6 weeks after suffering a third degree MCL sprain in his right knee during the club's game against the Montreal Canadiens on February 15. [Bruins]

    • Spector on the Rick Nash derby. [THN]

    • Your Hockey Weekend Across America schedule. [Puck The Media]

    • Here's Ellen Etchingham on the Canadiens fans cheering the Zdeno Chara injury: "Let me suggest something uncomfortable: we need to be bad. People need it individually and society needs it as a whole, and a culture that has no spaces for bad behavior is no culture worth living in. Not evil behavior, mind you, not flat-out immoral and unjustifiable crime, but simple badness. Wrongness, if you will. Inappropriateness. We need places and situations free of any obligation to virtue and the puritanical purification of our souls. We need opportunities for classlessness." [Backhand Shelf]

    • Check out Wyshynski, JP from Japers' Rink and lovely Kellie Cowan on Capitals Lunch Box. [Japers]

    • Finally, get the tissues and call a loved one: "Frankie Kolniak had his wish come true when he and his family took in a Canucks game in Vancouver and then met Roberto Luongo after the game."

"Next time we play Chicago are you gonna wear your Canucks jersey?"

Is Lu trying to get the kid killed? Jokes. Great story.

I'd love to see the highlight of Nash celebrating a post season victory with his team. Oh wait, he entered the league 10 years ago, and has never done that!??!?! Makes you wonder how he makes $7.8 million per year.

Take this into consideration. Nash's contact is nearly double that of Jonathan Toews (with only a difference of 3 years in length).

Please, please, someone try and explain to me how you think he isn't over paid and over hyped. You can lock up Toews for $31.5 million, or Nash for $62.4 million.

Even though clearly the 1980 jersey is the most important USA jersey of all time, my favorite USA jersey is a toss-up between 2005 World Championships and the 2010 World Juniors. Just wish every frickin' jersey on eBay wasn't a fake or real ones didnt cost $150 for blanks.

USA jersey list kind of sad. Seems like 10-8 they're basically saying, 'well, the jersey isn't all that impressive, but the team did great that year....'Come to think of it, most international jerseys are kind of meh. Although the Swedes know what they're doing most of the time.

Did you mash your keyboard in frustration over the American jerseys or Matt Duchene returning from injury?

From the mouth of Greg Wyshynski:
"Had I watched Zdeno Chara pummel my team into oblivion for years… I would have cheered his injury."

Great advice for our kids. Boycot this loser until he is fired.

Or you yourself could just not read the columns. i don't need-or want- censors telling me what i can or cannot read.
      • dster20 3 months ago
You already have that. You aren't reading KKK propoganda here are you? Why aren't you up in arms about that? They are censoring every day. This writer is a hate monger and I don't want kids reading his glorification of causing injuries. This subhuman should be banned.
