Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, Ottawa Senators center Jason Spezza and Washington Capitals goaltender Tomas Vokoun were named the NHL three stars of the week Monday. At least two of these players will appear in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season. [NHL]

• Everyone has Jacques Martin on the firing line for the Montreal Canadiens. And what better decision to make with the blade dangling above your head than to start Peter Budaj at Bell Centre? [Globe & Mail]

• Ken Campbell on Jacques Martin: "I'm not saying Martin should have a job for life, but if the Canadiens fired him today, who out there could come in and make things better? Patrick Roy? Really? Benoit Groulx? Those aren't the kinds of moves a team makes seven games into the season." [THN]

• In which Gabriel Landeskog is compared to Peter Forsberg by Ken Hitckcock, who clearly still enjoys [expletiving] with Colorado Avalanche fans after all these years. [Denver Post]

• No one other than Tom Gaglardi put in a bid to buy the Dallas Stars. Hence, it would appear that Tom Gaglardi will be the next owner of the Dallas Stars, pending Board of Governors approval. [ESPN Dallas]

• Aaron Portzline brings it home about how bad things can get for the Columbus Blue Jackets: "But how much deeper can the Blue Jackets get? They host Detroit on Tuesday. They play at Buffalo on Thursday, at Chicago on Saturday, then return to Columbus and host Anaheim on Sunday, a tough back-to-back. You think it's ugly now? The Blue Jackets could go 0-fer-October if they don't get their act together quickly." [Puck-rakers]

• "Blues captain David Backes isn't sure he suffered a concussion Saturday after being hit by Philadelphia's Chris Pronger, but he acknowledged today he had symptoms." Inglorious was back on the ice today, and appears ready to go. [STL Today]

• Mike Green had the best game of his season against the Detroit Red Wings, posting four points. He also twisted his ankle on the same play he was hit in the jaw with the puck. And that, friends, is Mike Green. [Capitals Insider]

• Zbynek Michalek will miss up to six weeks with a broken finger. How will the Pittsburgh Penguins cope? Slotting Kris Letang with Paul Martin, for starters. [Penguins]

• Hey, it's Drew Doughty! And he's skating! And wearing a yellow practice jersey… bummer. "There was great encouragement about his effort today but he is unlikely to play tomorrow." [LA Kings Insider]

• The sad end of the Alabama-Huntsville hockey program in NCAA Div. 1. Total bummer, and real setback for NCAA hockey in the deep south. [AL.com]

• Two good takes on the demise of Alabama hockey from Joe Yerdon (on a blog we very much miss) and Western College Hockey Blog.

• Speaking of NSFW, is you haven't seen the Nazem Kadri "scratching my head while flipping the bird" move, see it here.

• Russian authorities are grounding Russian airlines after the Lokomotiv. [RIANOV]

• Look, don't give us a headline that reads "RUFF TO RECEIVE EPIC AWARD" and then make it about the "Every Person Influences Children" award. It best be about the Super Genius of the Universe Award or Trekkie of the Decade or something really epic. [Sabres]

• Despite a nagging groin injury and generally being crappy this season, Wojtek Wolski is in the New York Rangers' lineup against the Winnipeg Jets. [Blueshirt Banter]

• Here's Marco Sturm discussing his trade to the Florida Panthers. He was a little surprised because it was "still early in the season." [On Frozen Pond]

• Alex Galchenyuk projected  in the top 10 in the draft, could be done for the year for the Sarnia Sting. [Buzzing The Net]

• No Daniel Alfredsson for the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. "Nagging hip injury" really isn't the most positive of developments. [QMI]

• Spector looks at the potential for a Daniel Alfredsson trade to the Calgary Flames. [THN]

• If the name Thomas Junta means anything to you, this story will break your heart. [The Boston Channel]

• Mike Yeo assesses the Minnesota Wild thus far this season. [Star Tribune]

• Jonas Gustavsson gets the nod against the Philadelphia Flyers, as James Reimer recovers from that heinous attack from Brian Gionta. [CBC]

• Catnip for stat geeks. Or "statnip." Interesting stuff about the predicting of winners in the NHL. [OGA]

• Ups and downs for the Washington Capitals in Week 3. Every team blog should have a feature like this. [Japers Rink]

• Finally, just another reason we're in the cult of Bailey. Witness the mercurial Los Angeles Kings mascot taking out sumo hockey players.
