REMINDER: Our new contest is underway. Your NHL Holiday Greeting Cards and Songs to, please. This came from FlyingWaterBotl: "I'm not on Colin Campbell's holiday greeting card list, but if I was I imagine it would look something like this."

• Jersey Fouls on Friday. Hoo-boy, there are some classics.

• Cancel those plane tickets to Omsk: Chris Chelios(notes) will not be playing in the KHL. Via LeBrun, Chelios said: "Honestly, I had an agent here two weeks ago and he had mentioned that two teams over there were looking for defensemen. I said, 'Well, go ahead and ask.' I never really got a real offer and to be honest, it wasn't too realistic for me to go over there. I'm having too much fun here watching my own kids." [ESPN]

• What do Sean Avery(notes), Henrik Lundqvist(notes), David Beckham and Venus Williams have in common? Glad you asked. [Forbes]

• Interesting words from Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock on his team's effort Wednesday night against the Nashville Predators: "We weren't prepared to play at the start and it cost us big-time. Catch-up hockey is losing hockey, I say that all the time. We've got to fix it, simple." [Freep]

Michael Del Zotto(notes)? Healthy scratch for the New York Rangers against the Ottawa Senators. [NYDN]

• Don Cherry on what to expect from Hockey Night in Canada's big 3-D broadcast this weekend: "DAMN DIRTY PINKOS ARE TRYIN' TO TAKE OUR TELEVISIONS." (We may have misread his quote.) [THN]

• Are opposing players figuring out Philadelphia Flyers rookie sensation Sergei Bobrovsky(notes)? "Something to keep an eye on: Bobrovsky, who is among the league leaders in several categories, has lost his last four starts against teams with a winning record." [Broad Street Bull]

• Nothing, and we mean nothing, is going to get us to a Tampa Bay Lightning home game faster than a third place finisher on Season 8 of "American Idol." [Lightning]

• Mirtle takes us behind the scenes of the Sidney Crosby(notes) show. [Globe & Mail]

• Looking at how to spin the fact that the New York Islanders haven't exactly improved after their big coaching change. [Lighthouse Hockey]

Via Kukla, a fantastic guide to The Big Chill game between Michigan and Michigan State this weekend: "Saturday's weather forecast calls for temperatures to be in the mid-30s with a 20 percent chance of light rain or snow during the afternoon. Michigan Stadium concession stands will be fully stocked with coffee and hot chocolate." []

• Underrated facet of the Pittsburgh Penguins' recent streak: The way Paul Martin(notes) and Zbynek Michalek(notes) have finally gotten Dan Bylsma's system. [Puck Update]

• From Michael Russo, on the Minnesota Wild: "With the exception of long-term injuries to Latendresse, Harding and Sheppard, the Wild is healthy as it heads out for the three-game road stretch. That means Brent Burns(notes), who lost some teeth the other night, is OK to go, as is Clayton Stoner(notes) (upper body)." [Russo's Rants]

• Our favorite post of the day: Pass It To Bulis issued a challenge to noted Scrabble player Tanner Glass(notes) of the Vancouver Canucks, in whose honor they designed a Scrabble T-shirt. Said Glass on his blog: "Apparently the word is out that I'm a Scrabble fan and I've actually had a few challengers. As of right now, I don't have the time to take anyone up on their challenges, but after the new year, I'll probably play a game with passittobulis, one of the bloggers that has taken it as far as to make shirts that are pretty sweet. Maybe we can sell some of those shirts and donate the proceeds to Canuck Place Hospice." [PITB, via Houses of the Hockey]

• Speaking of the Canucks, here's my 5-on-5 question bit for Vancouver 24 Hours, including a question about Markus Naslund's(notes) number retirement. []

Alexei Ponikarovsky(notes) is back for the Los Angeles Kings; where should be play? [Battle of Cali]

• Nice piece on the U.S. world junior team. [Obstructed View Sports]

• Just in time for the holidays: The NHL "naughty" list this season. [From The Rink]

• Canadian Brad Cruikshank has been given a nine-game suspension by the United Kingdom's Elite Ice Hockey League for his role in this wild bench-clearing brawl. [Y! Sports]

• Finally, the latest HBO "24/7" teaser focused on the head coaches:
