Here's the birthmom of some guy on Reddit, drinking wine out of the Stanley Cup at a bar with the 1997 Detroit Red Wings. At least he says it's wine. It might be Amstel Light. [Reddit]

• Dustin Byfuglien has been formally charged in the boating while intoxicated incident. He faces four charges total: "Byfuglien was charged with third-degree boating while intoxicated, a gross misdemeanor carrying a penalty of up to a year in jail, and refusing to submit to a test. He was also charged with failing to display the proper warning lights on the boat and not having enough flotation devices for everyone on board." Floatation devices, that's where they get you. [Star Tribune]

• The Vancouver Canucks will be honouring the emergency first responders and those that helped to clean up the riot with free tickets to preseason games. It's a nice thought, although watching a game in which Cody Hodgson centers Todd Fedoruk and Mike Duco seems dangerously close to a punishment. [Open File]

• BD Gallof on Nino Niederreiter making the big club, and what else to expect from Islanders training camp. [Hockey Independent]

• The first Toronto Maple Leafs game of the preseason drew 7000 more fans than one of the last Toronto Blue Jays games of the regular season. See, if the Blue Jays were smart, they'd just play their game at the Leafs' intermissions, like a pee wee team. [CTV]

• Four seconds into the season, Scott Gomez is already a lightning rod for criticism. Carey Price showed how to deal with this last year: put in a Vezina-calibre season. Somewhat impossible for a forward, yes, but it's about as likely Gomez getting nominated for any other major awards. [Eyes on the Prize]

• A mother was arrested in California for sleeping with two of the members of her son's underage hockey team, proving that, in real life, Youngblood's Miss McGill is a disgusting concept. [ABC]

• The popularity of the Washington Capitals in Baltimore has some wondering if pro hockey could thrive there. If they do get a team, I hope they name it after the city's most intimidating element: Omar Little. [Baltimore Sun]

• For years, Deline, a city in Canada's Northwest Territories, has claimed to be the birthplace of hockey. But now two Swedish researchers are refuting these claims. It's amazing what Daniel and Henrik Sedin get up to in the offseason. [Vancouver Sun]

• Steve Webb and Pat LaFontaine are biking 550 miles in two days to raise money for charity. They will end up at the NHL store in New York City, where they'll see the prices of everything, then bike to the Internet instead. [NHL.com]

• Roberto Luongo signs on with "BC's online poker room" PlayNow.com. Luongo's apparently a big online poker guy, perhaps because it means he can play all his games at home. He's much better there. [NewsWire]

• The Boston Bruins in... Stanley Cup Hangover. [Days of Y'Orr]

• While most of the time, you want your prospects coming to camp with more bulk, Jordan Eberle has actually lost five pounds, and that's a good thing. [National Post]

• The top ten games of the Carolina Hurricanes 2010-11 season. [Canes Country]

• Daniel Alfredsson on his lengthy tenure with the Senators. On his biggest disappointment: It's the last three years," he says. "We really thought we could keep it going. That's why it was so frustrating." I was kind of hoping he'd say Patrick Lalime. [Ottawa Citizen]

• Minnesotas Wild fans are hoping out hope that Matt Cullen can be the second line center, because even in a world without hope, you have to hope for something. [Hockey Wilderness]

• Part two of San Jose Sharks' blog Fear the Fin's interview with Sharks' GM Doug Wilson. The best part is when they try to talk about advanced stats, and Wilson puts his hands over his ears and goes "lalalalala..." [Fear the Fin]

• Pass it to Bulis chats with Canadian rapper Kyprios, who tells a great story about stealing a cigar from Pat Quinn. [PITB]

• And finally, in today's "What is this I don't even" moment of the day, here's a Buffalo fan "shakin it Sabres style". I can't decide what's more heinous: the video itself, or the buffaslug jersey she's wearing. And yes, I'm fairly certain that's a woman, but don't take my word for it.
