Puck Headlines: Another highlight for Patrick Roy, hockey dad

Here are your Morning Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• Leahy had this video over on Going Five Hole this weekend, in which Patrick Roy's son Frédérick keeps the family tradition of ghastly violent YouTube hockey clips alive by cross-checking Vincent Bourgeois in the face during a Quebec Remparts QMJHL game (you know, the team Patrick Roy coaches). Quite the pacifist family, huh? The brotherly play-fighting in the Roy house must have made Will Ferrell vs. John C. Riley in "Step Brothers" look like a snuggle party. Now, does Frédérick have a MySpace page for his R&B career, too? Because there's always the chance he's the one who got the singing talent in the family ... [Going Five Hole]

• Speaking of Roy, his number was retired last weekend by the Montreal Canadiens, while Wendel Clark was honored by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sports and the City explains why Clark should be remembered and lauded more than Roy, who was as selfish as they come. "Patrick Roy. What a drama queen. What a diva. What a quitter." What a takedown! [Sports and the City]

• And speaking of going five hole, have you noticed more five-hole goals this season? The NHL's tweaks to goaltender equipment may just be making a difference. [NHL]

• The Boston Bruins officially unveil their third jerseys, which look pretty darn sharp if a little redundant. The Pro Shop at the Garden will start selling the sweaters today at 2 p.m. with Bruins players Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Phil Kessel, Marc Savard, Tim Thomas and Blake Wheeler there to pimp them. Be sure to visit BostonBruins.com for an unintentionally hilarious flash animation of Milan Lucic shivering in the snow. [Bruins Blog]

• Larry Brooks freaks out about the state of the New York Rangers, wondering if there's any hope when the team relies upon shaky defensemen like Michal Rozsival and Wade Redden. For the record, Redden may actually have more turnovers than shots on the power play this season. [NY Post]

• No definitive word on Roberto Luongo's injury just yet, but Curtis Sanford is ready to take the reins for the Vancouver Canucks. [CBC Sports]

• The Philadelphia media is back to not wanting Brendan Shanahan on the Flyers. [Philly.com]

• Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers probably don't want to hear this from Danny Briere regarding his injured groin: "I don't think I've ever had an injury like this one that has taken so long -- I have no clue. There are days I think it will get better, and it doesn't. That's why it's frustrating -- I can't put a timetable on it." Money well-spent. [Courier Post]

• Steven Ovadia wonders if dumping the instigator rule would do anything to curb shots to the head in a League where Wade Belak can't find a fight. [Puck Update]

• The Ottawa Senators want a puck-moving defenseman. The Florida Panthers want a No. 1 center. Jay Bouwmeester for Jason Spezza? That seems to be what Bruce "Malkin to the Kings" Garrioch seem to be inferring. [Ottawa Sun]

• Things are getting serious between Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs. And by "serious" we mean "heavy petting." The negotiations heat up as the Leafs have lost seven of nine games. Or, as it's clinically known, they've "become the Leafs again." [Toronto Star]

• Jay Feaster mocks the Edmonton Oilers for the recent dust-up between Dustin Penner and Craig MacTavish. "I am certain not too many of my former colleagues were pitying Mac-T and his under-performing asset. For most GMs there was probably a sense of, 'it looks good on you, Edmonton.'" Meow! [THN]

• Take that, KHL: "The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced a marketing alliance with the Champions Hockey League (CHL), the newly formed European club championship under the authority of the International Ice Hockey Federation." Smart move for the League. [NHL]

• Discovering the dream concerts for New Jersey Devils players and coaches. Lou Lamoriello: Sinatra, of course. Larry Robinson: Celine Dion. WTF?!? [Star Ledger]

• Finally, not so much a dream concert: Heavy Eric's tribute song to Alex Burrows of the Canucks. It's like Frank Black and Truman Capote birthed a singing puckhead. Burrows on fire to-ni-hi-height!
