Five things to know about tonight's NHL games ...

1) Two of them already happened. In afternoon action in the NHL, which is what Martin Luther King would have wanted, the New York Islanders edged the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in a shootout, and Brad Marchand led the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

2) Penguins record home-winning streak at stake. The Penguins have won 14 in a row at home. Can they make it 15? Probably. It's the Panthers, so probably.

3) Everything is wonderful in Toronto. After a rough stretch of games, the Leafs have finally righted the ship and are definitely not in the middle of the sort of hot streak that even bad teams occasionally enjoy. They're looking to win their fifth straight, and if they pull it off, it'll be the first time in seven years.

4) Red Wings have been healthier. The Blues are struggling right now, so a beat up Detroit team might be just the cure for what ails them. The Red Wings are quite injured. They could be without as many as eight players tonight, including Pavel Datsyuk and Daniel Alfredsson.

5) First goal wins in Nashville: Normally it's the other way around (last goal loses, or something), but the Predators need that first goal badly. They've gone down 3-0 in the first period six times this season. This is a team that struggles when scored upon early, and for a Dallas team that's gone 2-7-1 in their last 10, they could do well to see the other guys struggle.

Bold prediction: Toronto wins its fifth in a row thanks to a two-goal performance from Philip J. Fry Kessel.
