PITTSBURGH -- We've said it many times before: If the NHL decided to sell a calendar with photography from the Winter Classic, we'd buy two copies each.
The images from each Winter Classic are stunning. From the low-angle photos from the ice to the fan snapshots from inside and and around the stadium, there's hardly a bad image that comes out of these outdoor games.
So from our friends at Getty Images (and one shot of our own), here's last night's Winter Classic in photos:
As we mentioned in our post about why we love the Winter Classic, the fashion choices of the coaches is always fun to see. Last night, both Dan Bylsma and Bruce Boudreau and their staffs went with the varsity jackets, but "Disco Dan" gets the edge because of his choice of trilby.
Stephen Page of "Barenaked Ladies" fame sings "O Canada"; and unlike what many were thinking at the time, no, that wasn't Austin Powers.
We're eagerly awaiting Sid to be Photoshopped with a Team Canada jersey and this photo to then be on the front page of every Canadian newspaper.
It was warm enough in Pittsburgh for Jan. 1 that going shirtless wasn't that crazy an idea.
We saw superfan "Elvis" here outside Heinz Field before the game filming some sort of video for his YouTube page. Penguins radio man Mike Lange was not impressed with this "Elvis".
Rain, rain, rain. That was topic du Jour in Pittsburgh all week and after raining for most of Saturday afternoon, the wetness returned during the game and was noticeable at times in the third period.
Finally, victory and defeat on display in the same photo as the Capitals celebrate their 3-1 win over the Penguins.
