Peter Laviolette and Darryl Sutter named All-Star Game coaches

The Jan. 25 Columbus All-Star game we will have a coach who is known for his firebrand speeches versus a coach who we can’t really understand when he talks, but love anyway.

Peter Laviolette’s Predators have the top points percentage in the NHL, so he was named an All-Star Game head coach Friday. Darryl Sutter’s Kings won the Stanley Cup last season, so he will coach the other team.

But the cool part about it? Both have three Cups between them, and five Stanley Cup Final appearances as bench bosses.

Says the NHL’s release:

Laviolette will be making his second career NHL All-Star appearance, having shared coaching duties with Vancouver's Alain Vigneault for Team Nicklas Lidstrom in their 11-10 win over Team Eric Staal at the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh. Sutter will be making his All-Star debut behind the bench.

Currently the All-Star "starting six" have been selected by fans across the world, with Latvia and the Chicago Blackhawks being the and the biggest winners of all. Jerseys will be revealed on NHL Live on Friday night and the rest of the team will be announced Saturday. Hopefully host Columbus will be somewhat represented … paging Nick Foligno or Ryan Johansen.
