Penguins’ Michalek bumps into his goalie; Maple Leafs’ goal waved off for some reason (Video)

Great play here by Phil Kessel, as he backs off the Penguins defenders before coming to a sudden stop along the half-wall, circling back, then making a savvy pass to Tyler Bozak for the goal.

Unfortunately, Kessel's great play is negated by an even better play by Penguins' defender Zbynek Michalek, who gingerly bumps teammate Marc-Andre Fleury, prompting the officials to wave off the goal.

Okay, that's just ridiculous on so many levels.

First of all, Lupul doesn't even come within a foot of Fleury, so I can't even begin to imagine how the officials could think he had anything to do with this. Second, I've seen goalies bumped by opponents harder than this without getting the goal waved off.

I hate to venture towards hyperbole, but this is the worst call in the history of hockey. Ever.

    s/t to Kukla's Korner.

I'm a Pens fan and it was a horrible call. It should have counted, but I'll take it as it happened.

Amen, youd think the refs would take a gander at the damn jumbotron thats re-playing the giant F....uck UP that this call was

cry all you want but when you have a four to one lead with ten minutes left you should win.

Pretty ridiculous non-call, and really no excuse for it. They have instant replay, one look would make it clear it was entirely Michalek who bumped into Fleury. Unless the NHL has a new rule about going easy on teams whose players bump into their own goalies, they don't have any defense for this. And it directly impacted the result of the game. Go figure.

Yep..bad call. they happen. But worst ever?..nah. It didn't decide the game.

Terrible call. How hard would it have been to review this for a couple of seconds? A lot of missed opportunities for the Leafs in this game too. So angering!

Welcome to the Homer Rule Leafs fans. You were just had by the NHL.

NHL has a hard on for Michalek. First he nearly takes Matt Hendricks head off with an elbow from behind and gets no suspension. Now he takes out his own goaltender and gets the goal waived off. Lucky? I don't think so.

The exact same thing happened to the Sharks. So I feel for the Leafs fans on this one.

That is a terrible call, but "worst call in the history of hockey. Ever?" I doubt it's the worse call in the history of hockey. Hell, it might not even be the worst call of the night. Check out Ray Whitney's disallowed goal for Martin Hanzal's goaltender interference. It's like they are bringing back the crease rule.

No kidding. "I hate to venture towards hyperbole..." Well, Harrison, then don't write stuff like this.

I guess they thought Lupul bumped into Michalek, which caused him to bump Fleury?? I guess..?

The same thing happened in OT of the last sharks/flames match. Wingels was on the far edge of the crease and kiprusoffs own man knocked him down. Goal disallowed.

The refs made up for it by not calling any penalties on the Leafs until the 3rd period ....
