Pass or Fail: Minnesota Wild 2016 Stadium Series jerseys

Now, you might see the Minnesota Wild’s unveiling of their 2016 Stadium series jerseys as just another opportunity to suck money from fans’ bank accounts for a sweater that appears to fail basic tests for ingenuity and appearance.

But as you can see in this video produced by the team, the release of these jerseys is no less than THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT IN THE RELATIVELY SHORT HISTORY OF MAN AND WOMAN KIND:

A jersey “is hope?” It’s “a promise?”

It’s a thing that needs a surging choir in the background to underscore its ethereal consequence? Can it cure lepers?

Anyhoo, the Minnesota Wild released their new Stadium Series jerseys ahead of their Feb. 21 Stadium Series game in Minnesota against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Here's Mikko Koivu, male model:

From the Wild:

"I really like the jersey's classic look, the addition of the State of Hockey Logo and the "M" mark to our uniform," said Koivu. "It's an exciting step towards our first outdoor game, which is going to be a great celebration for our fans and the entire State of Hockey."

Two unique features highlight the jersey. The State of Hockey™ logo on the shoulder is a tribute to the loyal fan base of the region. It is the first time that this popular brand symbol has appeared on any Wild jersey. The new ligature "M" logo on the pant is a bold reproduction taken from the iconic third jersey word mark. Enlarged numbers on the sleeves and back are adaptations of the Wild's current number system, scaled for greater visibility in the stadium setting. The jersey crest features the Minnesota Wild primary logo and jersey colors are primarily Forest Green with Iron Range Red and Minnesota Wheat accents, which is an homage to the team's unique color scheme and identity.

They’re a bit of a throwback to the old home jerseys the Wild wore until about 2007, except this time they have wide white shoulders breaking up the design and thick striping on the sleeves.

Oh, and as is Stadium Series tradition, those stupid giant numbers.

So not a lot of ingenuity here. Maybe they could have evoked a little North Stars nostalgia, unless they’re saving that for a Winter Classic they’re never getting.

I guess they have the benefit of having a great logo to build around. But this seems like a bit of a missed opportunity.

What say you?
