Pass or Fail: ‘Bleed Blue’, the St. Louis Blues playoff anthem that’s pure rawk

The St. Louis Blues became the first NHL to clinch a postseason berth with their win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. Despite the recent injury to American Hockey Hero David Backes, they should still finish atop the Western Conference as well.

Hence, it's an appropriate time for the Blues to get their own playoff anthem, which the St. Louis-based band Brookroyal — "tearing it up and turning heads in their hometown scene for the last two years!" — has provided. Raise your fists in the air for "Bleed Blue", the St. Louis Blues RAWKING playoff anthem:

That rocks pretty good; a little reminiscent of Foo Fighters' "Breakout." It's the kind of thing you'd hear in between Incubus and Disturbed on many a local rock station.

As a playoff anthem … well, our prerequisites are (a) getting us pumped for the game and (b) some customization to the team being celebrated.

While "Bleed Blue" accomplishes the first task — we're a sucker for "hey hey heys" in arena anthems — it doesn't really capture much of anything about the actual team outside of the "Let's Go Blues" chant. We can only assume this is due to the inherent challenges in rhyming "Langenbrunner" or "Pietrangelo" or "Colaiacovo." Terrific scores in "Words With Friends", not so friendly for rock lyricists.

What say you? Does this track give you playoff goose bumps? Is it destined for highlight packages during TV timeouts in the second period? Or does it make your ears bleed red?
