Jonathan Bernier freezes the puck. With his mind.
If you want to have a good birthday, it's important to take charge. Want a party? Throw it yourself. Want the right gift? Buy it yourself. No one else knows what you want like you do. I bring this up because Patrick Sharp clearly wanted a ton of new, slightly-used hats for his birthday, which was tonight, so he scored three goals in the first 20:27 of the Blackhawks' 7-2 rout of the Colorado Avalanche. He added an assist as well, because he's also after an invitation to Sochi, and a four-point night looks better than a three-point night. Here's the hat trick:
Wheeler scored twice, including the eventual game-winner midway through the third as the Jets won a wild one, 6-4, over the Minnesota Wild. Wheeler's first was part of a seven-goal first period where the teams traded the lead three times. And if that doesn't sound like enough of a clustercuss, check out his winner:
Honorable mention: Cam Atkinson scored the shootout winner as the Columbus Blue Jackets edged the New Jersey Devils, 2-1... Speaking of shootouts, Joffrey Lupul scored the shootout winner as the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a 4-3 comeback win over the Buffalo Sabres. They were down 2-0 at one point, but lucky for them, it was Buffalo... James Neal had a three-point night, picking up two assists and the OT winner in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes:
... It was a goaltender's duel in Washington, but not between Holtby and Lundqvist -- between Philipp Grubauer and Cam Talbot! The two backups combined for 68 saves, with Grubauer coming away the victor as the Capitals topped the Rangers, 3-2... Erik Cole scored twice, Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves, and the Dallas Stars beat the Nashville Predators, 4-1... Devan Dubnyk stopped 27 shots from the Calgary Flames for the shutout as the Edmonton Oilers won the Battle of Alberta 2-0... David Moss scored twice, but the San Jose Sharks scored twice in the shootout for the 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes...
Did You Know? John Scott, after scoring at the Air Canada Centre: "I seem to do some special stuff in this building."
Dishonorable mention: How do you blow a goal by John Scott, Buffalo? How? ... The Jets and Wild seemed pretty uninterested in playing defence in the first. And it's unfortunate that Minnesota lost interest again late, because it's a shame that this goal came in a losing effort:

- Ice Hockey
