Steve Ott plays whack-a-mole with Alex Semin's head.
No. 1 Star: Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres
Good thing Miller was well-rested from the Sochi Olympic tournament, because he had to be at his best versus the Carolina Hurricanes. The Sabres were outshot 38-18, but thanks to Miller, they weren't outscored, as he stopped 36 en route to a 3-2 win.
No. 2 Star: Christian Ehrhoff, Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres got a two-goal night from Ehrhoff, who opened the scoring early in the second period, then added the game-winner inside the final minute:
No. 3 Star: Tyler Ennis, Buffalo Sabres
Ennis contributed the Sabres' other goal, scoring one midway through the third on an outstanding individual effort that would have stood up as the game-winner if not for a timely tally from Alexander Semin.
Honorable mention: Jeff Skinner and Jiri Tlusty shot the lights out, with 7 and 5 shots on goal, respectively... Eric Staal scored for Carolina, but I predicted he'd score two, so thanks for nothing, Eric.
Did You Know? With their two third-period goals, the Sabres moved out of last in the NHL in that category, leapfrogging the Vancouver Canucks.
Dishonorable mention: The Sabres weren't really all that good in this game. Fortunately, Miller hasn't given up hope that someone will like him enough to trade for him.
