A goal by Dale Weise midway through the third period was all the Canucks needed to shutout the Nashville Predators 1-0. Luongo made 23 saves for his 62nd career shutout and fifth win in six starts.
As Brent Seabrook sat in the penalty box early in the third period, Saad came in on Brent Burns, wasn't challenged and netted the insurance tally to help the Blackhawks beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 and set an NHL record to start a season with their 17th straight game with a point.
The Penguins bounced back from their loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers. Fleury won his fourth straight start making 22 saves. He's now won seven of his last eight starts.
Honorable Mention: Ray Emery made 26 saves to improve to 7-0-0 ... Dustin Jeffrey scored his first goal for the Penguins since Feb. 18, 2012 ... Brandon Sutter won 14 of his 18 draws ... Mike Weaver scored his first goal since Jan. 25, 2011 ... Chris Kunitz's power play goal extended the Penguins' streak of games with a man advantage tally to 10.
Did You Know? "This game marked the fourth time this season that the Predators have gone into the third period with the score tied 0-0." (AP)
Dishonorable Mention: Kevin Bieksa left the game with a lower-body injury ... Nashville has lost six Pekka Rinne starts by only one goal ... Florida managed just three shots in the opening period, their lowest in a frame this season ... Evgeni Malkin left the game in the third period and did not return after this vicious collision with the boards:
Afterward, Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said Malkin will be evaluated Saturday.
