NHL Three Stars: Stars hold off Capitals; Ducks finally win in OT

No. 1 Star: Tyler Seguin, Dallas Stars

In the battle of the top teams, Dallas came emerged victorious over Washington by a score of 4-3. Seguin scored two goals for the Stars giving him a total of 30 on the season. Scary moment for Seguin near the end of the game when he was sliced by a skate on the arm. It required stitches. His status is unknown.

No. 2 Star: Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks

For the first time this season, the Ducks won in overtime. The Ducks captain, playing with a full cage due to a broken nose, scored his sixth goal of the season in extra frames against the Chicago Blackhawks. He also assisted on David Perron's goal earlier in the game. Chicago now shares the lead in the Central with Dallas.

No. 3 Star: Carter Hutton, Nashville Predators

The Atlantic Division leading Florida Panthers could not break the impenetrable wall that was Carter Hutton. The netminder earned his sixth win of the season on the back of a 22 save performance. Check out this incredible blocker save.

 

Honorable Mention: Brad Marchand scored a shorthanded goal in the first period. David Krejci put up a goal and an assist in the Boston Bruins 4-2 defeat of the Minnesota WIld. Claude Julien picked up his 500 win as an NHL coach. Mike Reilly scored his first NHL goal in the final 37-seconds of the game ... Shayne Gostisbehere scored the only goal for the Philadelphia Flyers. It came on the power play and set a rookie defenseman scoring record with points in 11-straight for Gostisbehere. Both New Jersey Devils goals came on the power play. Adam Henrique netted the game winner in overtime while Joseph Blandisi opened the game with a pretty scoring play:

... Henrik Sedin appeared in his 1,141 game as a Vancouver Canuck, top in the franchise. Brendan Leipsic netted his the first goal of his NHL career in front of his family after receiving a blessing from Teemu Selanne. Mark Arcobello scored 2 goals in the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 triumph over the Vancouver Canucks on 'flying skate' jersey night in Vancouver ... Victor Rask scored 2 goals in the Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 drubbing of the New York Islanders. Eddie Lack appeared in relief of an injured Cam Ward. He had 9 saves in 22:26 ... Boone Jenner scored his 18 and 19 goals of the season against the Ottawa Senators. Joonas Korpisalo improved to 9-6-3 on the season with 33 saves in the 4-2 win ... Washington nearly comes back against Dallas with 3 unanswered goals in the third. Evgeny Kuznetsov earned assists 40 and 41 on two of the Caps goals ... Brent Seabrook scored both Blackhawks goals in the loss. Corey Crawford appeared to have the Ducks number as they sent 44 shots his way. ... Ondrej Pavalec returned to the net for his first game since November 21, 2015. He allowed only 1 goal on 22 shots and stopped Matt Hendricks and Connor McDavid in the shootout. Hendricks netted a shorthanded goal to tie the game with 9 minutes to go. Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd both scored in for the Winnipeg Jets in the shootout. Wheeler had a power play goal earlier in the game ... Melker Karlsson and Brent Burns each had 2 assists in the San Jose Sharks 4-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes. Martin Hanzal scored the only goal for the Coyotes in honor of the release of Zoolander 2.

Dishonorable Mention: Michael Del Zotto left the game in the third period with an injury. Andrew MacDonald was called up by the Flyers to replace him ... The Wild dropped their eighth consecutive game. Head coach Mike Yeo was fired hours after the game ended. Boston and Minnesota's power plays combined for 0-for-11 ... Ryan Miller made 33 of 36 saves and the team in front of him could only muster 2 goals on 19 shots ... Nick Leddy was a minus-4 for the Islanders. Cam Ward left the game due to injury after making this save:

... Brandon Pirri's leg exploded when he made contact with the wall. Watch if you have an iron stomach. Gerard Gallant was pissed at the lack of call on the Pirri play. He was tossed with less than 3 minutes to go and given a game misconduct plus an abuse of officials minor. Anthony Bitetto destroyed Quinton Howden in the first period with a massive hit. He answered for it at the end of the game by throwing down with Alex Petrovic.

... Mark Borowiecki left the game against Columbus with a laceration to the head and did not return. Erik Karlsson played a ridiculous 32:53 TOI with the next closest in ice time being Dion Phaneuf at 25:21. Karlsson was a minus-4 ... Barry Trotz decided to give Braden Holtby the third period off after he allowed 4 goals on 25 shots ... Frederik Andersen replaced John Gibson to start the third period against Chicago. Gibson is day-to-day with an upper body injury. Marian Hossa left the game after suffering a leg injury.
