Nazem Kadri gives throat slash gesture to Mark Giordano (Video)

Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri took exception to a big check by Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano and showed his displeasure with a throat slash gesture.

The situation occurred  near the end of the first period of their Tuesday game at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Kadri had his head down as he entered the Calgary zone and Giordano exploded into the young forward.

At the bench, Kadri was caught by cameras making the gesture at Giordano. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, NHL hockey operations director Colin Campbell is “reviewing” the Kadri gesture.

In 2010, the league suspended then-Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nick Boynton one game for a throat slash gesture toward Blair Jones of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Also in 2010, James Wisniewski, then of the New York Islanders, received a two-game suspension for an obscene gesture towards New York Rangers forward Sean Avery.

In his tweet, Dreger points out the Kadri gesture “may end up being nothing” but it’s the type of situation that’s at least meriting another look.
