The Senators were without Alfie for 11 games and won five of them. Since his return on Saturday night, the Senators are 2-0 and the Ottawa captain hasn't missed a beat scoring six points in his two games back from injury. Facing Boston this afternoon, Alfredsson completed a natural hat trick in the second period en route to a 5-1 win over the Bruins. It was Alfredsson's ninth career hat trick and first multi-goal game since November 21st.
Continuing to prove that they aren't a fluke, Anderson and the Avalanche beat up on a struggling Edmonton Oilers team during its 6-0 victory. Anderson made 24 saves for the shutout and has won five of his last six starts. Colorado has won four straight and sit in the third spot in the Western Conference, four points ahead of Vancouver and Calgary. Having a career season in net, Anderson has set career-highs in victories with 24 and minutes played with 2,461.
It had been almost three years since Ortmeyer recorded his last three-point night, but he took advantage of a 9-1 Sharks rout of Calgary to match his career high for points in a game. Scoring a goal and adding two helpers, Ortmeyer was one of four San Jose players to record multi-point nights during a game that saw just five Sharks go pointless.
Honorable mention: Another start, another win for Rick DiPietro(notes) and the New York Islanders. DiPi stopped 20 New Jersey shots in a 4-0 shutout of the Devils. Matt Moulson(notes) scored twice and Andy Sutton(notes) added his 100th career assist as the Islanders won for the sixth time in their last seven games ... Improving his record for Columbus to 9-3-0, Mathieu Garon(notes) made 30 stops and Raffi Torres(notes) scored twice for the Blue Jackets in a 4-2 win over St. Louis. Rick Nash's(notes) eventual game-winner on the power play early in the second period was also his 400th career NHL point ... Ugly night for Phoenix as they were blown out by Buffalo 7-2 in front of a home crowd that featured plenty of Sabres fans. Jason Pominville(notes) scored twice and Tim Connolly(notes) had three assists to extend his points streak to 12 games in the win. Ryan Miller(notes) made 24 saves as Buffalo improved to 8-0-3 in their last 11 games ... Phil Kessel's(notes) first goal in nine games with 5:48 remaining in the third period deflated a Nashville comeback and was the difference in a 4-3 Toronto win ... Dany Heatley's(notes) two goals, coupled with Joe Pavelski's(notes) four points and Evgeni Nabokov's(notes) 21 saves were way more than enough for the Sharks in their handling of Calgary. Things got chippy towards the end of the second period when Stars forward Steve Ott(notes) took a butt end to the face and then fell on top of Josh Harding(notes). The Minnesota goaltender took exception and went after Ott:
Did you know?: New Jersey's loss today was the first time they've been shutout all season.
Dishonorable mention: It hasn't been an easy past five starts for Tim Thomas(notes). With a fantastic win against San Jose mixed in, Thomas has lost four of his last five and against Ottawa this afternoon, he was chased midway through the second period after allowing three goals on nine shots ... With a handful of teams scoring at will, it wasn't a pretty night for defensive hockey. Ed Jovanovski(notes), Zbynek Michalek(notes), Craig Conroy(notes), and Curtis Glencross(notes) all finished the night minus-5 ... Pekka Rinne's(notes) been standout for Nashville this season but the Maple Leafs got to him tonight with three first period goals that chased him just nine minutes into the game ... Continuing the night of roughed up goalies were the San Jose Sharks who scored six times on Miikka Kiprusoff(notes), the third time he's allowed that many goals in a game this season.
