Wild fire Yeo following eighth consecutive loss; Torchetti hired as interim

After the Minnesota Wild dropped their eighth-straight game early Saturday, Mike Yeo remained steadfast," I’m not freaking quitting here, and I’m not quitting on this group. I’m going to show some fight, and I believe in the group, but better start believing in each other and better start delivering."

Well, he may not quit, but it appears the franchise has quit on him.

Rich Walsh of KDKA in Pittsburgh was the first to report of Yeo's firing. Everyone was somewhat hesitant to go off of what he said because he's not Mike Russo. About 20 minutes later, the beat writer chimed in:

As the losses began to stack up, it felt inevitable that Yeo's days were numbered. The loss to Boston appeared to be all that GM Chuck Fletcher could take.

No word yet on who will replace Yeo behind the bench. We'll update this report as soon as news is released.

The Minnesota Wild have confirmed the firing of Yeo. GM Fletcher issues the standard 'thank you' in the release.

UPDATE:

It's official now: John Torchetti is the interim head coach of the Wild. Torchetti has previously served as the head coach of the team's AHL affiliate in Iowa.
