What was that Milan Michalek goal celebration all about? (VIDEO)

Milan Michalek had two goals and an assist in the Ottawa Senators' 5-2 humbling of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. His first goal at 14:13 of the first period was sick: a rink-length stretch pass from Erik Karlsson, the use of Dennis Wideman as a croquet wicket, the finish past Tomas Vokoun … and then a rather odd celebration:

For the video impaired, Michalek took off his glove, put a finger in the air and spun it around several times as he skated along the boards.

So what was it? An impression of Wideman haplessly attempting to defend the play? The Michalekian version of the Jagr Salute? A tribute to RATT's seminal classic "Round and Round?"

None of the above. Via Erin Nicks of NHL.com, Michalek said:

"My buddy from back home in Czech came and he said if I scored I had to do that."

Michalek has 27 goals with no sign of letting up. Our advice to his friend: See how far you can push this "if you score, you must do" thing. For example, we've yet to see a player use his own skate to shave his head after a goal …

Looks that way to me, too. He was staring right at it while he did his move

As far as goal celebrations, I'd love to see:

      1) The scorer (bonus points for gomez) put their helmet on the ice and dance around the sombrero firing off his finger six shooters in the air
      2) The scorer skate by the bench and do the robot
      3) The scorer skate over to Pierre McGuire and rub his head like a crystal ball and point to the jumbotron replay for the foretold prophecy, or simply
      4) The scorer straddle the goalpost and hump it with all his might.

Lol I love it! It looked like he had fun following thru on his must do if he scores promises, probably earning himself some "you must do, if you...- demand" credits of his own!

He was telling them to roll the highlight reel.

ive seen kane do something like that. While he does appear to equivocate, it looks like he wants that occasion to continue to happen in the future because it has happened in the past. All day baby

Maybe he's a baseball fan. That's the umpire's signal for a home run.

Beautiful goal on his part but it was made too easy on him by a team that didn't show up to play.

The headline makes it sound like he must have acted like it was a playoff series clinching goal, maybe even Cup Finals, like it was way overboard, maybe falling to the ice in a heap of people, and then it turns out to actually be nothing. What has become of the media?!

What's the big deal about the celebration? Who cares?

The goal on the other hand was freaking sweet.

in the nba that is the sign the refs give on a specific play so the crew knows they want to review it at the next stoppage.

Trying to get a sponsorship deal with Adidas?
They had a commercial in which stars like Messi and Rose were doing that.

He really does. I cant believe how far, this fast, that team has fallen. Ovi seems to be a one trick pony and everyone has figured out that "cut from the wing to the center move" and made him look like a very average player.

Having said that, the Washington team looks uninspired to say the least.
