Oh, to have had a recording of goalie Filip Landsman’s thoughts in the following shootout clip from Austria’s Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.
Did he think he had Mike Ratchuk of Olimpija Ljubljana figured out after that jab of the stick? Did he think he had the left post covered by lunging out with his glove at the last moment? Did he ever think he was about to be victimized with one of the nastiest shootout dangles of the year – on a game-winning goal no less?
That right there is some filthy Datsyukian [expletive].
We don’t want to say Ratchuk abused Landsman with that move, but we’re pretty sure we detected the faint sounds of Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” during the replay.
Ratchuk was a second-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2006 out of Michigan State, and played three seasons with the Phantoms before moving on to the Syracuse Crunch. He’s appeared in the AHL, CHL and ECHL and this his first season in Austria. Among his teammates: Yes, indeed, we have a Jan Mursak sighting!
On Twitter, Ratchuk said this was some kind of tribute to Kyle Okposo. Hey, whatever gets you on SportsCenter, friend …
