There hasn't been a goaltender on the cover of an EA Sports' NHL video game since John Vanbiesbrouck donned the NHL 97 box while a member of the Florida Panthers. All these years later, he'll be joined by New Jersey Devils netminder Martin Brodeur, who was announced on Friday to be the winner of the fan cover vote for the NHL 14 game coming out in September.

Over 22 million votes were cast since EA Sports began the cover tournament in April. The final two came down to Brodeur and Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bobrovsky's current contract status would have made it awkward had he be chosen then bolted for the KHL, a league which isn't featured in the game.

Here's EA's cover reveal trailer with some goalie saves and, to make it Brodeur-specific, the 41-year old scoring a goal:

There hasn't been an NHL curse like we've seen in the Madden series as players tend to have pretty good years when they feature on the cover. Brodeur is entering the final season of a two-year deal, one many believe is his last.

What kind of swan song will he deliver now that he can add "video game cover" to his long list of accomplishments?
