Mark Stone to have disciplinary hearing on Monday for hit on Landon Ferraro
In the Ottawa Senators 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Sens forward Mark Stone delivered a hit on Landon Ferraro with 8:52 to go in the second period. Stone received an illegal check to the head penalty and sat for two minutes.
Ferraro did lay on the ice for a little bit before skating off on his own power. He was seen messing with his jaw, but alas, he didn't miss a shift. (How 'bout them concussion spotters, eh?)
After the game, Stone expressed his remorse, via Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun:
“I think I was leaning for the puck and when he got around me I knew he was going to get around me and it was just one of those bad instinct plays by me and it’s something I’m not proud of,” said Stone. “I’m glad he’s okay.”
The following day, the Department of Player Safety announced Stone would face supplementary discipline on Monday.

Stone is a first time offender facing the discipline board. He's currently the leading scorer for the Senators with 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists).
It'll be interesting to see what he ends up getting. There have been worse incidents that haven't incurred supplemental discipline, like this one from Brad Marchand on Friday. He received a game misconduct after sending Dmitry Kulikov into the boards face-first.
It's not full fledged return of the Wheel 'o Justice but it's been inconsistent under Stephane Quintal. Just ask Stone. In the playoffs he was on the wrong end of a P.K. Subban slash that left him with a fractured wrist. Subban received a major penalty on the play and that was it. Go figure.
