It’s not hard to imagine the feeling of contentment that was experienced by Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi on Saturday night, as he watched his trade deadline prize tie and then win Game 1 of their divisional final series against the Anaheim Ducks.

Here’s Marian Gaborik, tying the game with seven seconds remaining:

Via LA Kings Insider, Gaborik analyzed the goal:

I think we did a good job. I think they rimmed it, I don’t know who stopped it on their blue line and Rick did a good job in the corner. He saw me in front and just threw it there. It just kind of trickled to me and I think I batted it out of the air. It was one of those things that you try to go to net and see what happens.

Here’s the game-winner, a tip-in at 12:07 of overtime, to give LA the 3-2 victory:

Said Gaborik:

I think [Jeff Carter] forechecked and I think they turned it over. [Anze Kopitar] got it in front in the high slot and that’s just one of those things that I got open and Kopi saw me there. It was a great pass. I just tried to tip it, went post, back and in.

A great pass, and a great win for the Kings in Game 1 over an Anaheim Ducks team that had a 2-1 third-period lead on Teemu Selanne’s goal at 8:08.

But as Kopitar said, it’s just one game: “It feels great of course, but this is one game. We’re up 1-0 and we just have to regroup and be at the Game 2. We’re not done.”
