My all-Time Season from hell has to be the 1985-86 Detroit Red Wings. So awful they were fun; although in the midst of a terrible 10 year stretch of putrid hockey its hard to choose one particular team.Back when you could go to the Joe on game day and pick up tix on the glass- before todays ornamental hockey simpletons found out hockey was cool.
Loisell, Lambert, Klima, Chichocki. Youngsters Probert and Kocur and Yzerman were just cutting their teeth. Well, in the case of the first two- other guys teeth.
Kocur had 43 fights (probably the Wings total for the last three years), Bench-clearing brawl vs. Tor, goalie fights, 150 regular season fights, 200 PIM games...last in goals for, last in goals against, 17-57-6. As rookies coach Brad Park said, "I inherited a last place team and kept them there. Dead Wings indeed.
It was the 85-86 season that made everything that has since followed oh so very sweet.....

Hunter would have had to have the Caps, before he could "lose them". The truth is, he will go down as one of the worst hires. Not just for the Caps. Not just for hockey. But in every sports league.
