On Wednesday, Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville didn't specify exactly what was ailing Toews, but after a couple of days of evaluating, the team has decided to shut him down for their final six games.
The Blackhawks are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and sit three points behind the Colorado Avalanche for home ice in that opening round series. The Avs have a game in hand, so the lead could be five points.
Without both Toews and Kane for the remainder of the regular season, and the amount of hockey both have played with their Olympic participation and last year's Stanley Cup run, it's probably best to concede the home-ice to the Avs and let their two stars rest up.
