John Scott to have phone hearing for Tim Jackman sucker punch

John Scott to have phone hearing for Tim Jackman sucker punch

How many games for John Scott?

The San Jose tough guy has such a long rap sheet, one that will likely now include an incident from Monday night when it appeared that he knocked out Anaheim tough guy Tim Jackman with a cheap butt-end/punch. Even that kind of move is new and different for Scott, who was not penalized on the play.

The Department of Player Safety tweeted that Scott will have a phone hearing Wednesday afternoon. That's Christmas eve. Talk about great Scrooge-like timing from all parties.

The video please:

It's not like Jackman is a saint. He's basically Anaheim's version of Scott. Because of this, Scott's actions aren't as absurd as when he went after Loui Eriksson or Phil Kessel, both skill players who should be left alone by someone in Scott's role. Scott referenced the Kessel situation earlier in the year when he fought Jackman and was suspended two games for leaving the San Jose bench, that the tough guy role should be left to the tough guy.

So maybe he's learning? Probably not. I mean he is John Scott after all. He's not getting paid to score goals. Also, Jackman was defenseless on the play.

From Anaheim's Bruce Boudreau on the play via CSN Bay Area:

“It looked like Scott thought he was coming after him. He went up to protect him, and I don’t know if he hit him with the stick or the forearm. Got him right in the jaw. When you hit a guy in the jaw, bad things usually happen.”

In case you were wondering, Scott has one goal and one assist this year -- proving his one-year $700,000 one-way salary, you know ... if you like players who just punch out other guys and do nothing else.
